Phospholipids have an affinity for collagen in the skin and can form adsorption films and chemical bonding films on skin fibers. These films serve to lubricate the fibers and prevent the oxidation of oils, thereby providing surface protection. Phospholipids have a plasticizing effect on proteins, and this plasticizing effect can also be applied in the production of leather finishing agents. When phospholipids are used to treat leather, their non-polar lipophilic groups face the air, while their polar hydrophilic groups point toward the fiber surface, forming a water-repellent oriented adsorption layer on the leather fiber surface, thereby imparting water-resistant properties to the leather. The treated leather fibers exhibit excellent silk-like optical properties, which are referred to as a silk-like luster.

Adding phospholipids to detergents can reduce the surface tension of the solution, enhance wetting ability, and improve cleaning efficacy.

When added to coatings, phospholipids act as emulsifiers and dispersants, helping to prevent pigment precipitation and layer separation during dilution. They enhance painting performance, resulting in a smooth, lustrous, and even coating surface, thereby improving paint quality. When added to natural rubber, synthetic rubber, hard rubber, and recycled rubber, phospholipids have softening, dispersing, and vulcanization-promoting functions, as well as certain anti-aging properties. Phospholipids have multiple applications in textiles and dyeing, such as emulsifiers, penetrants, dispersants, and antioxidants, and can also be used in textile washing, degumming, silk-finishing, and dyeing processes.

In the textile and dyeing industries, phospholipids play a significant role in both cotton and wool spinning. In addition to the aforementioned applications, phospholipids have other uses, such as serving as a binder for sand in metal casting. In the pesticide industry, they can function as emulsifying dispersants for formulations. Powdered phospholipids are excellent dispersants in applications such as tape recorders, color film, and fluorescent screens.
